Public aid
Electricity shock absorber extended in 2024
Publié le 24 avril 2023 - Mise à jour le 20 février 2024 - Directorate for Legal and Administrative Information (Prime Minister)
The ‘Electricity shock absorber’ scheme, already applied in 2023, is extended for 2024. This aid is intended for SMEs which do not benefit from the electricity price cap of 280 €/MWh and which have an electricity meter with a power of more than 36 kilovolt-amperes (kVA). The benefit of this device does not require any action by your company.
Application and evolution of the amount of the electricity shock absorber
The Electricity Shock Absorber is a device designed to reduce the electricity bills of energy-intensive companies affected by the sharp rise in energy prices. It will now end on December 31, 2024:
It is aimed at two types of companies:
- the SMB ;
- TPEs (companies with less than 10 employees with an annual turnover of less than EUR 2 million) with an electric meter of a power output greater than 36 kVA.
This aid applies to the average annual electricity price of a given contract (in €/MWh or €/kWh) excluding transmission costs of electricity in the grid and excluding taxes.
This concerns signed electricity supply contracts before 30 june 2023 and still in force in 2024.
FYI
The cumulative aid ceiling for 2023 and 2024 is set at €2.25 million.
Application to VSEs
For VSEs (companies with less than 10 employees with an annual turnover of less than EUR 2 million) with an electric meter with a power output greater than 36 kVA, the electric shock absorber shall apply to companies:
- having signed or renewed their 2024 electricity supply contract ;
- of which the variable electricity share price for 2023 Exceeds 280 €/MWh on average per year.
For these companies, the damper makes it possible to reduce, on the total volumes of electricity consumed, the average annual electricity price at 230 €/MWh.
Application to SMEs
For the year 2024, the electricity shock absorber improves its coverage of the electricity bill.
So now it allows SMEs to bring back, on 75 % of the electricity consumed (compared to 50% in 2023), the average annual electricity price at 250 €/MWh (compared to 180 €/MWh previously).
Reminder
This reduction was set in 2023 at €160/MWh on the total consumption (€320/MWh on 50% of the consumption covered by the shock absorber).
Aid automatically passed on to the electricity bill
The only step to take to benefit from this aid is to transmit to the electricity supplier a certificate of eligibility to the device no later than march 31, 2024.
The price reduction is directly deducted from the electricity bill on your company.
You can obtain an estimate of the amount of the shock absorber that will be applied to your electricity bill using the simulator set up by impots.gouv.fr.
Please note
If you received the shock absorber in 2023, no steps need to be taken. If this situation changes, you must notify your supplier.
