The EORI Community identifier number for imports and exports from outside the European Union used by economic operators can now be based on the SIREN as of 5 April 2023. By the end of 2025, this number will no longer be able to be based on the SIRET.
What is the EORI number?
The Economic Operator Registration and Identification (EORI) number corresponds to the unique Community identifier number assigned to economic operators under their customs formalities (imports or exports of goods outside the European Union).
What changes: possibility of obtaining an EORI SIREN number
Until now, the EORI number in France could only be composed of the words ‘FR’ followed by the SIRET number. However, according to the EU Customs Code, the EORI must be attributed to a company (not an establishment) as it has legal personality.
Thus, since 5 April 2023, it is also possible to request an EORI number based on the SIREN (“FR” + SIREN number). This change makes it possible to prepare for the obligation to use the EORI SIREN number in new customs IT systems by the end of 2025. The EORI SIRET number will then be deleted.
Companies holding or having held the Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) authorization already have an EORI SIREN number and therefore do not need to take any action.
