2025 tax return: How to correct it?

Publié le 17 juin 2025 - Directorate for Legal and Administrative Information (Prime Minister)

Think you made a mistake on your 2025 income tax return, or forgot to report an amount? You have the opportunity to correct your return, whether you made it through a paper form or online. Explanations with Service-Public.fr.

You made a statement online

The online tax filing service remains open until the end of july. This allows you to correct your return to this date from your Special Space on the tax website (you can also do it on smartphone or tablet if you have declared your income via the mobile application impots.gouv.fr).

CautionHowever, if you file your income tax return now, rather than simply making a correction, you risk a late-filing penalty because the filing period is over.

Correction after receiving your tax notice

Your tax notice will be available in your Personal area in late July/early August. If you notice an error in this review, an online correction service will be available in your Special area (“Go to Online Correction” function) from 30 july to 3 december 2025 inclusive.

During this period, you will be able to access your return and change amounts or check boxes. You will then receive a confirmation email. A new tax notice will be issued after processing the corrective return and your withholding tax rate will be recalculated.

Once the online correction period is closed

You will have to file a complaint on your Private Space. This must be done within a limited period. Consult the file of Service-Public.fr to find out the time limits of the various tax claims: Tax claims and legal actions.

Please note

Some information cannot be corrected through the online correction service:

  • change in family status (marriage, Civil partnerships, Civil partnership breakdown, divorce, death);
  • the updating of civil status;
  • changing the escrow designation, changing the address, adding or changing the student address.

You made a paper statement

You can file a claim after receiving your tax notice, either online, via your Personal area or by mail to your public finance center, indicating this information:

  • surname, first name and address;
  • tax number;
  • handwritten signature;
  • the tax concerned;
  • the reason for the complaint together with the supporting documents.

Reminder

If you made a mistake in a report to the administration, you benefit from the right to err. It allows you to correct your error without a penalty.
