In 2023, internal security forces recorded 278,703 digital offenses (digital attacks on property or person).

It is in this context that the Ministry of the Interior decided to propose a one-stop shop for victims of digital crimes: the 17Cyber. This new service offers personalized advice and, if necessary, direct contact via chat, a gendarme or a police officer.

The 17Cyber for whom?

Numerical equivalent of call 17, on 17Cyber is intended for all victims of digital crime: individuals, companies and communities.

The system already allows victims of cyberattacks to contact the gendarmerie or police forces to obtain a first response and thus a first aid to their problem.

For professionals, associations, communities, digital threat prevention and/or security services may be established.

How does it work?

With this new tool, the Ministry of the Interior engages with Cybermalligence.gouv.fr and partners with the services of the National Police and the National Gendarmerie.

Depending on the scale of the digital attack, the gendarme may simply offer advice, arrange an appointment with the nearest brigade to file a complaint, or even trigger immediate action by the cyber gendarmes in the most serious cases.

The 17Cyber allows you to:

• rapidly diagnose the problem;
• receive recommendations tailored to the situation;
• get technical assistance: by a computer service provider and/or by 24/7 chat with a gendarme or police officer when the threat requires it.

What kind of breach?

Digital attacks can take many forms, from the simplest (phishing attempts) to the most complex (cyber attacks). They can attack property (scams) or the person (cyber-harassment, threats, sextortion...).
