Cybersecurity: A guide for SMEs

SMBs are the target of many cyber attacks due to their small size. In response to these risks, the National Agency for the Security of Information Systems (ANSSI) and the Directorate General of companies (DGE) have published a guide to answer the questions posed by the digital protection of a company.

Theft of data, ransom demands, damage to the image... More and more SMEs are victims of computer attacks because of their lack of means to prevent and combat these risks.

In order to better address these growing threats, the National Agency for Information Systems Security (ANSSI), in partnership with the Directorate General for companies (DGE), the Confederation of Small and Medium-Sized companies (CPME) and France Num, has published a prevention guide for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). It helps the employer take stock of the situation of his company and put in place the right measures to avoid being the victim of a computer attack that could harm the reputation and sustainability of the company.

13 questions and answers for better protection

In order to strengthen the protection of companies who may be targeted by these cyber attacks, the guide answers 13 questions covering different topics:

  1. Are you familiar with your IT assets and business assets?
  2. Do you perform regular backups?
  3. Do you regularly apply updates?
  4. Do you use an antivirus?
  5. Have you implemented a strong password policy?
  6. Have you activated a firewall? Do you know the filtering rules?
  7. How do you secure your email?
  8. How do you separate your computer uses?
  9. How do you manage digital risk during missions and business trips?
  10. How do you find out? How do you educate your employees?
  11. Have you had your cyber insurance policy assessed for coverage?
  12. Do you know how to react in case of a cyber attack?
  13. Are you planning to use cloud solutions?
