Do you know about “salary transfer fraud”?

For several months now, a new scam has been gaining momentum: the salary transfer fraud. In the face of the increasing number of cases, both employees and companies must take precautions.

What is salary transfer fraud?

This new scam consists of impersonating an employee to ask the company's human resources to change the bank details where the salary is paid.

The usurper thus receives the salary paid by the company.

What to do in case of an attack?

The company who is the victim of this scam must not waste time. Several measures are to be taken:

  • identify transfers fraudulent (paid or future);
  • contact the accounting department to block the transfer concerned (if possible);
  • lodge a complaint ;
  • request the return of funds to the bank if the transfer has been made;
  • retain evidence scam (phone numbers, messages...);
  • raise awareness your staff.

How to avoid being attacked?

This new scam is based on the use of a false identity. Employees must therefore also remain cautious and protect their personal data.

They must therefore:

  • be vigilant against phishing messages ;
  • limit at best there publication of personal information on the internet and social networks. This is because the scammer uses this information to deceive the company and communicate his bank details;
  • use reliable passwords for email accounts (or a double authentication) to reduce the risk of hacking.
