Is there a minimum area for an employee's workstation?

Verified 11 August 2025 - Directorate of Legal and Administrative Information (Prime Minister)

No, the labor code does not lay down no minimum surface area of the workstation.

However, the employer must take the necessary measures to ensure security and protect the physical and mental health employees.

The employee's workspace must allow him or her to sufficient freedom of movement in height and surface.

Each employee must have a comfortable work space, adapted to his activity (individual office, workshop or sales space open to the public, for example).

The employer must put in place occupational risk prevention actions related to physical constraints, work rhythms and aggressive physical environments.

Please note

The workspace must be accessible to disabled workers.
