Verified 30 December 2024 - Directorate for Legal and Administrative Information (Prime Minister)
Many new electronic equipment must include a type-C USB port in order to be compatible with the universal charger. We're presenting the regulations.
The obligation to include a type-C USB port (standards NF EN IEC 62680-1-2 and 62680-1-3) applies to electronic equipment which may be recharged by wire recharge.
It shall apply to:

The obligation will apply from April 28, 2026 laptops.
Please note
Electronic equipment which is not charged with a wired device (e.g. induction charging) is not subject to the obligation.
When such equipment is put up for sale, a charging device shall not be systematically provided. The customer must be able to choose whether or not he wishes to purchase a charging device at the same time as his equipment.
One pictogram indicating the presence or absence of the loading device must be printed on the package or affixed to the package in the form of a sticker. This pictogram is indicated in article 3 of an order available on Légifrance.
Where the equipment is made available to consumers and other users, the pictogram shall be displayed visibly and legibly and, in the case of distance selling, close to the price indication.
