To build a garden shelter, a city planning permit may be required depending on its surface area.

The rules vary according to the territory concerned.

The protected areas are the outstanding heritage sites, the approaches to historic monuments, classified or pending sites, nature reserves, outstanding spaces and coastal environments to be preserved.
